Total Solar Eclipse of August 12, 2026

August 12

This astronomical event is the second and final eclipse of 2026.  It is also the first of three upcoming eclipses that are visible from parts of Spain.  The path of totality makes landfall in eastern Greenland, continues into western Iceland, and into the Pacific Ocean, before crossing northern Spain, and ending in the Mediterranean Sea off the east coast of Spain and northern Africa.  For observers in Spain, the total eclipse phase occurs when the sun is low in the sky, and eclipse followers will want to ensure they have an unrestricted view of the horizon.  The duration of totality is relatively short, varying from a little over 2 minutes in Greenland to about 1 minute 45 seconds in most of Spain.
